WHAT TYPES OF SUPPORT DOES NDIS FUNDING COVER?

Not all types of support required by a person living with a disability fall under the responsibility of the NDIS .

Some supports are funded by other areas of government (e.g. state health systems) or existing public/community services.

ARE DISABILITY SUPPORT PENSION LINKED WITH NDIS FUNDING?

The Disability Support Pension along with other income supports and payments such as the Carer Payment, Carer Supplement, Carer Allowance and Child Disability Assistance Payment are entirely separate to the NDIS.

These payments will not be affected if a patient qualifies for NDIS funding (the exception to this is the Mobility Allowance from Centrelink, which may be replaced if your patient’s NDIS plan includes transport-related funded supports).

It’s important to note that someone who is receiving the Disability Support Pension is not automatically eligible for NDIS funding and supports.

IS NDIS INCOME DEPENDANT? I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS ON WHEELCHAIR, BUT HE HAS DECENT INCOME, IS HE ELIGIBLE FOR NDIS FUNDING?

NDIS is not means tested. Unlike Centrelink, an NDIS application is assessed on an applicant's impairment and support needs. Even if he's earning above 100k a year he is still eligible for funding such as house cleaning, gardening, pay for things like wheelchair etc., as long as he meets the eligibility requirements for the NDIS he is able to apply.

If you friend wishes to apply, he/she can do so by either completing an Access Request form which can be found via https://www.ndis.gov.au/how-apply-ndis/what-access-request-form or he/she can call National Contact Centre on 1800 800 110 between the hours of 8am and 8pm and complete a Verbal Access Request over the phone.
